Shattered Glass

This Past week after we finished up our research paper, we started to watch a movie named Shattered Glass. It was bout a young journalist writing for The new Republic. Stephan had always had amazing work and everyone looked up to him. Then, an online company got suspicious and started to look up the information. They found nothing and realized it was all made up. Stephan's boss got upset and looked into all of the articles he had written and majority of them had been fabricated. This was a good movie to watch after we had just finished our research papers to show that cheaters do get caught!

mY Generation

Over winter break I started reading a book that I really enjoy. It is called mY Generation by Josh Riebok. He writes about his life and the things that have impacted him the most. This book speaks to the generation Y and to those involved in leading the future generation to come. It talks about the brokenness in the lives of average people and points to hope which is possible through the power of community and genuine faith. mY Generation opens your eyes to things people don't usually talk about, the hard times that people go through and their real life stories. This is one of my favorite books and I'm still reading it!

Week of 12/12-12/17

This week in Ms. Nickow's class we worked on and finished up our rough draft for our research paper. We also got to hear to members of the speech team speak on Friday, December 27th. Erika's was more hidden and less obvious humor, and very great. Her speech was on how guys need more bromances and stop overwhelming their girlfriends. Unser's was very funny making fun of the fact that our generation has no direct conversation talent, we just use texting and Facebook to communicate. Then during the break we received our rough draft papers back and will be finishing them up for the due date next week.

Week of Dec. 6-10

This week our class worked on our final outlines for our research papers. We were in the media center located in the library. Wednesday we turned in our 75 research note cards. To form them into an outline we had to organize our cards by what subject they were talking about which would turn into paragraphs in our papers, and once we had them into subjects we organized the cards within their subject by the order in which we wanted to talk about them. I found this very helpful when putting together my outline.

Week of November 29 - December 3

This week the students of Ms. Nickow's 8th period english class worked very hard on their literary research papers with  much help from the librarians. Although difficult and very time consuming, the students seem to be making good progress on their projects.
